Dad Bank
Privacy Policy
The short version
Dad Bank has no accounts and no servers. Your family's information lives on your phone, and copies go only where you send them. WristSkill Labs never receives your family's data, so we can't see it, sell it, or lose it.
What the app keeps on your phone
- Your family name and the name you go by
- For each kid: the first name (or whatever you type), an emoji picture, and a kid code
- A scrambled (hashed) version of each kid's PIN, and of a parent passcode if you set one
- Every ledger entry: amount, description and date
- Allowance, interest and borrowing settings, cash-out requests and their notes, and planner entries
- A signing key the app uses to prove entries came from your phone
- Whether you bought Dad Bank Plus, and when backups and syncs last ran
It sits in the app's private storage on your phone, protected by your phone's own encryption.
Where copies go, and who controls them
Your iCloud Drive (iPhone). If automatic iCloud backup is on, the app saves a backup to a Dad Bank folder in your own iCloud Drive after changes, plus one copy per month. Apple stores it under your Apple Account; we can't see it. You can turn this off in Dad Bank → Settings.
Files you choose to save. A backup file or spreadsheet you export goes wherever you send it.
Your phone's own backups. Your iPhone's iCloud or computer backup, or Android's backup to your Google account, may include the app's storage.
Paired kid phones. The kid app is free; pairing it is part of Dad Bank Plus on the parent's phone. A paired kid phone keeps that kid's ledger and a family backup, and syncs directly with your phone over your home Wi-Fi, not through the internet.
No backup ever contains PINs, the parent passcode, or the signing key. After restoring a backup, you set new PINs for your kids.
What the app never collects
No email, phone number, birthday, location, contacts, photos, advertising ID, analytics or crash reports. No real money, and no bank or card details. The app has no ads. We don't share anything with ad networks or data brokers, and we don't sell data. There is nothing to sell.
Permissions, and why
- Face ID: unlocks parent mode. Your face data stays with iOS; the app never receives it.
- Camera: only to scan a pairing code between your phones. Nothing is recorded or saved.
- Local network: only to reach your family's own phones on your home Wi-Fi.
Purchases
Dad Bank Plus is a one-time purchase handled by Apple (or Google). The app checks on your phone whether Plus is owned. We don't receive your name, your Apple Account or your card.
Children
Dad Bank is for parents to use with their kids. Kids use it with a PIN on a parent's phone, or on their own phone paired to a parent's. Parents create and control every kid profile and can reset PINs.
WristSkill Labs does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13, because nothing is sent to us. If that ever changes, we will update this page first.
Deleting your data
Because everything is on your devices, you delete it there:
- In Dad Bank on the parent's phone, open Settings → Erase Dad Bank from this phone. Leave "Also delete my iCloud backups" on to remove those too.
- On each paired kid phone, open Dad Bank and tap Unpair this phone.
- Delete any backup files or spreadsheets you saved.
Deleting the app alone does not remove iCloud backups. You can also remove them in the Files app (iCloud Drive → Dad Bank) or in Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage. We hold none of your data, so there is nothing for us to delete, but you're welcome to email us with questions.
Security
Keep backup files private: they can rebuild your family's ledger. Every entry is signed by the parent's phone, and kid phones refuse anything that isn't. Syncing between your phones happens only on your home network, and every message is encrypted with a key the two phones share from pairing.
If your app store shares an age-range signal with apps (Apple's Declared Age Range, Google Play Age Signals), Dad Bank keeps that range on the phone with the date it was checked, changes nothing based on it, and never sends it anywhere.
Not a bank
Dad Bank is a family ledger and learning tool. It doesn't hold, move or invest real money, and it doesn't offer credit. Interest and borrowing costs are pretend amounts set by the parent.
Legal requests
We hold no family data. If that ever changes, we may disclose information when the law requires it.
Changes
If we ever start collecting something we don't collect now, we will update this page and its date before that starts.
