Jack Steel's Protein Tracker
Privacy Policy
The short version
Everything you log stays on your phone. There are no accounts and no servers, so nothing you log ever reaches us.
What the app keeps on your phone
- The daily protein goal you set, and the goal that was in force on past days
- Protein amounts you log, your daily totals, and your history
- Your streak, level, and XP
- Which amounts you log most often, so the quick-add buttons match your habits
- Which muscle groups you picked for a training day
- Settings: celebration style, background, haptics on or off, notification choice
- If you buy the app: which option you bought, and — if it's a subscription — when the current period ends
That is the whole list. It sits in your phone's app storage. Deleting the app deletes it. "Reset all" inside the app erases it too — except the record of a purchase, because erasing your history should not cost you something you paid for.
There is no account
You don't sign up, and you don't hand over a name, an email or a phone number. The app works the moment you open it, and nothing you log is attached to an identity, because there isn't one.
What we don't collect
- Your age, sex, height, weight, body fat, or any other measurement
- Calories, photos, location, or contacts
- Your advertising ID
We don't share anything with ad networks or data brokers, and we don't sell your data — there is nothing to sell. The app has no ads.
Analytics and crash reports
The app counts a handful of moments — like "the purchase screen was shown" or "a daily goal was hit" — so we can tell whether the app is working and where people get stuck. Here is the whole of it:
- The counts carry no identity. No name, no Apple Account, no advertising ID — and no number that identifies your install. We cannot tell one person's events from another's.
- Your numbers are not in them. The events are names, not amounts: the count says "a goal was hit," not what the goal was or what you logged. Your protein amounts, goals, streaks and history stay on your phone.
- Where they go: Aptabase, an analytics service built for exactly this kind of anonymous counting. The data is stored in the European Union. It receives the event name and basic device facts (iOS version, app version) — nothing else.
There is no crash reporting today. If we add it, we will update this page before it starts.
What leaves your phone
Nothing you log. Your goal, the amounts you enter, your history and your streak stay on your device.
Three things do involve someone else:
Usage counts. The anonymous event counts described above go to our analytics service. Nothing you log is in them.
Purchases. Apple handles payment. We never see your card, your Apple Account, or your name. Apple tells us that a sale happened — not who made it.
Links you tap. The support resources on the Health & Safety screen open your phone app or your browser. Those services have their own privacy policies. We are not told that you tapped one.
Reminders
Reminders — like an evening nudge when you are behind your goal — are scheduled by your phone, not by us. They are optional, you are asked before any are set, and you can switch them off at any time. Nothing about them is sent anywhere.
If you are under 18
This app is meant for ages 13 and up. It is built to be safe for younger users, which is why some things you might expect are missing:
- No weight, calories, body fat, or measurements. This is a protein habit tracker, not a body-composition app.
- No leaderboards, no photos, no comparing yourself to anyone.
- The app doesn't tell you how much protein to eat. It doesn't calculate, suggest, or recommend a number. You set your own — and it's worth setting it with a physician, dietitian, or other qualified health provider, and with a parent or guardian if you're under 18.
- Hitting your goal earns a full day of credit. Going past it earns nothing extra. Nothing in the app rewards eating more.
- The Health & Safety screen is free, and you never have to pay to read it. The crisis and eating-disorder support lines on it are there for anyone who opens this app, whether or not they have bought anything. Everything else — logging, goals, streaks, levels, history, reminders — needs a purchase.
- If you can't pay for it, that's okay. Tracking protein is not something you need an app for, and nothing about your health depends on buying this one.
If you are under 18, talk to a parent or guardian, and to a physician, dietitian, or other qualified health provider, before you change what you eat or how you train.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because the app collects no personal information at all.
Not medical advice
Jack Steel's Protein Tracker is a habit tracker, made for general wellness and entertainment. It is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent anything, and it makes no claims about your health, your fitness, or your body. Talk to a physician, dietitian, or other qualified health provider before changing your diet.
Paying for the app
Using the tracker needs a purchase, and there is no free trial. The Health & Safety screen is free either way.
There are three ways to pay, and you pick one:
- Monthly — renews every month until you cancel.
- Yearly — renews every year until you cancel.
- Lifetime — one payment, once. It does not renew, and there is nothing to cancel. If you already pay monthly or yearly and then buy Lifetime, your old subscription does not stop on its own — cancel it yourself in your App Store account settings, or you'll keep paying for both.
Apple handles all of it. The monthly and yearly options renew on their own unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends; you manage or cancel them in your App Store account settings, not here. Refunds go through Apple too.
Changes
This page describes the app as it is today. If we ever start collecting something we don't collect now, we will update this page and change the date at the top before that starts.
